Hi! You've reached a page that's a hold-over from my old site. Come see my new site here!

I'm an aspiring filmmaker and want to go to Sudan...

I'm not sure if I can quote you directly, but I am under the assumption that you believe this emergent conversation must extend to the global south...

If my assumptions are correct, then you and I wholeheartedly agree. Does Emergent - or any other organization/movement/conversation/fellowship for that matter - have plans to send teams into the global south?

I dream big, and those dreams are not always grounded in reality, but recently I have felt a pull on my heart to leave the full-time Christian ghetto I am in and go to Africa, namely the Sudan. I believe that region has great potential, and I'm not sure if we as Americans fully grasp that potential.

I am an aspiring filmmaker and I have a desire to travel to the Sudan, capture the experience on film, and bring it back to the states. I would love to do this in the context of the emergent conversation but I don't know if that is God's plan or just my selfish motives.

I'm not sure how God will develop and mature this dream but I want to remain obedient during the process. In the meantime, can you recommend any books about postcolonialism? I feel somewhat childish, as if I am writing to my sports hero, and I worry that what I have said will not make any sense, but hopefully you will realize where my heart is and can reply accordingly. I appreciate the affect your obedience has had on my journey. Thank you for your time.

Answer: First – I am also a person who dreams big, so no need to apologize. And I too am dreaming about what we can do for Sudan … stay tuned at this website for a project I’m hoping to announce soon. You’ll soon find a link at emergentvillage.com to the new international website, where you’ll be able to keep up with activities relating to emergent and the global south. Exciting things are happening. Perhaps you can join us and make a film!
